Computing in Year 6

Michael Sheerin

We started the new year by completing the first part of ‘Band Runner’ the new Esafety topic from ‘Thinkuknow’.

‘Thinkuknow’ is the education programme from CEOP, a UK organisation which protects children both online and offline.

Now the children are learning how to use Microsoft PowerPoint to make better digital presentations. They must create a presentation about a famous Victorian of their choice. The completed presentations will be published on the school website.

The majority of the class already know how to manipulate text and graphics, and understand the rules they need to follow to make their presentations engaging and visually attractive.

To begin with, the children were given a draft presentation containing text, images and a video about Charles Darwin. They will practice on this to improve their skills before they begin collecting information for their own project.

Today we learnt how to apply timings to our animations and transitions to enable the presentation to play slides continuously. We also learnt how to add background music of a suitable style to bring their presentation to life.

Next week the children will start to research they chosen Victorian.
