Mississippi - Year Six
Welcome back! For the first two weeks of this half term, we are going to be learning about mountains and Ingleborough in preparation for our trip- we are all VERY excited about it! When we get back, we will start our new topic about the Victorians.
In History, we will be looking at Victorian schools, jobs, children, Queen Victoria, inventions and lots more! In Art, we will look at the work of William Morris where we will re-create his work using painting and printing skills. We will also create collages inspired by our Ingleborough trip. In Science, we will be learning about electricity. In PSHE we will start our unit on ‘Identity, society and equality’ looking at human rights. In PE, we will be doing gymnastics. In Spanish, we will recap the basics before moving onto expressing our likes and dislikes.
If you have anything that you think might help with our topics, please send it in- we would really appreciate it!
In English, we will be reading The Spider and the Fly, The Highwayman and Oliver Twist. We will be writing a biography, instructions, letters, diary entries, non-chronological reports and newspaper reports. In Maths, we will begin with looking at place value and then move onto addition and subtraction.
I will be handing out some knowledge organisers that contain key facts and vocabulary that we will be learning in our topics. Please look at the information with your child.
A few reminders:
Please remember to read every night and remind your child to make a comment in their reading diary. Reading diaries will be checked every day.
Learning logs will be handed out on a Friday and are due in the following Wednesday. These will be shared with the class every week.
We have PE on a Friday (gymnastics) however we may do an outdoor session too if the weather is nice so PE kits need to be kept in school at all times.
Spellings tests will be on a Friday so please support your child.
And finally, every child needs pumps and a water bottle.
