Yangtze - Year Two
This half term we will be learning about Leeds and answering the question ‘What is amazing about our city?’
We will be finding out about the features of cities and will be creating maps of where we live. We will be using atlases to locate the seven continents of the world and also countries and cities in the UK. We hope to go on a visit to Leeds city centre so that we can have a look at some of the important buildings and spot some owls on the owl trail.
In English, we will be reading the books ‘Flat Stanley’ and Paddington bear’ and linking this to writing diary entries and descriptions linked to our Leeds topic.
In maths we will be learning about the value of each digit in 2 digit numbers. We will be ordering numbers and making number sequences. We will be using our number bonds to help us calculate.
In Science, we will be investigating different materials and their properties.
Learning log homework will be given on Friday and is due in the following Wednesday. Weekly spellings will be included in learning logs and children will be tested on a Friday. Please continue to listen to your child read each night and ensure they complete their reading diary and learn their spellings. We will have PE twice a week so make sure your PE kit is in school all week. Your child needs PE kit for PE indoors and outdoors. They also need to come to school without earrings on PE days – this is preferable to taping them up.
