Yangtze - Year Two

This half term we will be answering the question ‘Why is Africa Amazing?’ and will be learning about the country of Kenya. We will learn about Kenya’s landscape, weather and about life in both villages and cities.

In Art we will be colour mixing and will be creating paintings of the Kenyan Savannah. We will be learning about the Masai tribe and will be creating African prints in ICT using the paint program. In Science we will be answering the question ‘Why are humans not like lions?’ We will be learning about different animal groups and food chains.

In Literacy we will be writing instructions to make Mama Panya’s pancakes. We will be reading Anansi stories and will be writing our own stories using the story mountain. After finding out about African animals, we will write a guide for a safari park. In Maths we will be learning to solve problems involving multiplication and division. We will be naming and describing shapes and will be drawing and interpreting graphs and charts. In Music we will be learning to play African Djembe drums. Our PSHE topic is ‘Medicines and Me’ and our Mindmate topic is ‘Life Changes.’

PE will be on Tuesdays and Wednesdays this half term. Your child needs PE kit for PE indoors and outdoors. Please continue to help your child practice their weekly spellings and remind them to read each night.
