Yangtze - Year Two

Welcome to Year 2! This half term we will answering the question ‘What is exciting about our city?’ We will be visiting Leeds city centre. We will be finding out about the features of cities and will be creating maps of where we live.

This half term we will be investigating different materials and their properties. We will discover what our school is made from. In English we will be learning to write recounts and non-chronological reports. We will be reading books about Flat Stanley and will be reading books by the authors Drew Daywalt and Oliver Jeffers. In Maths we will be learning about the value of each digit in 2 digit numbers. We will be using our number bonds to help us calculate. We will also go 2d and 3d shape spotting around our school.

Our RE topic is New Life and we will be finding out about birth ceremonies in different religions. In ICT we will be learning to control a floor turtle. In Art we will be sketching the Leeds Coat of Arms and will be creating collages of owls. Our PSHE topic is ‘Identity, Society and equality – Celebrating difference.’

The weekly spelling test will take place on Thursdays. Our focus in PE this half term is Personal Skills. PE will be on Thursdays and Fridays. We are looking forward to being coached by the Leeds Gym Club. Please could all children have indoor and outdoor kit in school including trainers.
