Sculpture

Nicola Sheerin

Amazon had a fantastic visit to the Hepworth Gallery and the Yorkshire Sculpture Park.

At the Hepworth Gallery we looked at some of Barbara Hepworth’s Sculptures . We were particularly impressed with the size and scale of the Winged Figure sculpture. We talked about what the sculptures were made of, looked at some of the tools Barbara used and shared our ideas about what some of the different sculptures made us think of.

We then had a go at creating our own sculpture in pairs. The shapes are based on the sketches we had made whilst looking at the sculptures in the gallery. We used cardboard and wool - it was quite tricky but we were really pleased with the results.

We then went to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park and had a close look at the Henry Moore sculptures. We also used plasticine to try to re-create the sculptures ourselves - hard work in wind and rain!

We are all really looking to our visit to Leeds Art gallery next week where we will be able to find out more about Henry Moore’s work and use his ideas as inspiration for our own.
