White Laith Primary School is situated within Whinmoor in Leeds. Children and adults work together in an atmosphere of trust, respect and belonging. Yangtze - Year Two

This half term we will be learning about transport and trains and will be answering the question ‘How did George Stephenson change lives?’ We will be finding out about George Stephenson’s Rocket, which was the first steam locomotive to carry passengers. We will be visiting the National Railway Museum and will be looking at old and new trains.

In Art we will be drawing and painting steam trains in the style of LS Lowry. We will be engineers this half term and will be designing and making our own model vehicles using a range of different materials. In Literacy we will be reading Rosie Revere, Engineer by Andrea Beaty, Oi! Get off our Train by John Burningham and the Polar Express by Chris Van Allsburg. We will be writing non-chronological reports, book reviews and we will be thinking about characters in stories. We will be learning to use a range of conjunctions and noun phrases in our writing.

In maths we will be learning to solve problems involving money. We will be making totals and giving change. We will be recalling and using multiplication and division facts for the 2, 5 and 10 multiplication tables. In ICT we be creating a multi-media presentation about our visit to the National Railway Museum.

PE will be on Mondays and Wednesdays this half term. Your child needs PE kit for PE indoors and outdoors.

Learning log homework will be given on Friday and is due in the following Wednesday. The weekly spelling test will take place on Thursdays. Please continue to listen to your child read each night and ensure they complete their reading diary and learn their spellings.
