Healthy Eating

Healthy Eating - Cooking in the Curriculum

We recognise the importance of ensuring that every child has access to a healthy and well balanced diet, supporting them to lead a healthy lifestyle.

There are many opportunities to develop pupils’ knowledge, understanding and experience of both a variety of foods and healthy, balanced eating across the curriculum. We seek to do this by developing cross curricular links within our topics.

“The numerous cooking opportunities and lessons on healthy eating support pupils’ understanding of a balanced diet. Pupils have an excellent understanding of where food comes from through the development of the impressive Victory Garden.” (Audit Jan 2020)

Cooking in the Curriculum

We enjoy cooking and activities are often linked to topic planning.  We use a progressive skills based curriculum which covers skills such as knife skills, weighing and measuring and baking skills. Children will be taught about where food comes from and they will learn that food is grown, reared, farmed and caught in the UK, Europe and the wider world. They will also learn about food preparation, cooking and nutrition and the importance of food hygiene.
